Art Athina 2024, Greece’s most prominent annual visual arts event, returns from September 19-23 at the neo-classical Zappeion Hall. Held under the auspices of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, Art Athina is billed as one of Europe’s oldest contemporary art fairs, having been established in 1993.
Organized by the Hellenic Art Galleries Association, which has overseen the event since its inception, this year’s edition will feature 71 galleries from Greece and 10 other countries, presenting an expanded program focused on contemporary art, design, inclusivity and sustainability.
In addition to showcasing the latest trends and artworks of historical significance, Art Athina 2024 will also highlight emerging trends from international galleries. This year’s event will unfold not only within the Zappeion Hall but also in the surrounding spaces, including the adjacent open-air movie theater, Aigli.
The program consists of three main sections:
Main Section: Presenting a diverse selection of works from local and international galleries.
Design Section: Featuring galleries and designers who blend Greek traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics.
‘Exodus Project ‘: Curated by Loukia Thomopoulou, this section introduces independent art spaces, non-profit organizations, artist-run spaces, and emerging galleries.
In addition to the exhibitions, Art Athina 2024 offers a parallel program of talks, performances, video art, and educational workshops. More details on the program can be found here: Parallel Program.
