Acropolis Temporarily Closed on Wed. Due to Heat Wave

The Greek Ministry of Culture announced that the monument would remain closed between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Wednesday due to extreme heat

The Hellenic Ministry of Culture announced that the Acropolis archaeological site, the most visited monument in Greece, will shut down on Wednesday during hours of peak temperature as a heat wave plagues Greece.

Specifically, the site will remain closed between noon and 5 p.m.

People who have purchased tickets to visit the Acropolis during these hours will be able to enter the archeological site after 5 p.m. up until 8 p.m.

Severe weather has swept through the country with temperatures hovering at the 40C-mark forecasted this week for much of the southern Greece mainland, coupled with particularly arid conditions and poor air quality due to lingering Sahara dust.
