The five most visited cultural attractions in Greece last January were, as might be expected in an off-season month, the Acropolis archaeological site in central Athens, the Delphi site in south-central Greece, the Cape Sounion archaeological site at the southernmost tip of the Attica peninsula, the Acropolis Museum, and the National Archaeological Museum, also in Athens.
Although the number of visitors to museums was marginally down (0.4%) on the corresponding month in 2023, ticket sales were up by 4.5%.
The figures were dramatically different for archaeological sites, with a 22.4% increase in the number of visitors compared to January 2023, a whopping 52.1% hike in free admission visitors, and a 14.2% year-on-year increase in ticket sales.
