The 3rd Kefalonia International Film Festival, entitled “KYMATA” (Waves), is set to kick off Sunday August 25, offering a diverse range of film screenings, masterclasses, and cultural events through September 1.
The event is supported by various cultural institutions and will take place under the auspices of the Italian Embassy and the Greek Ministry of Culture.
Hosted at the scenic Municipal Building Complex of Thalassomilos, the festival will introduce its first competitive section this year, featuring 31 short films in the Fiction and Documentary categories.
A highlight of this year’s program is the tribute to Italian cinema, with screenings of works by acclaimed directors like Marco Amenta and Giuseppe Tornatore. The festival also presents special screenings, including live music accompaniment for Carl Dreyer’s silent film The Passion of Joan of Arc.
With free entry and English subtitles provided for all films, KYMATA aims to attract both local and international audiences.
The festival will also feature a rich array of parallel events, including photography exhibitions, such as the digital collection of the renowned photojournalist Yannis Behrakis in collaboration with the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography MOMus, as well as a display of images from Kefalonia and Ithaca captured in 1912 by Swiss-French photographer Frederic Boissonnas, in partnership with Bibliothèque de Genève.
