Low Pressure System to Bring up to 10 Degree Temp. Drop

The temperature drop will be accompanied by stormy northerly winds and rainfall, mainly affecting the northern part of the country

The weather in Greece is expected to deteriorate significantly by the end of the week. A low-pressure system headed towards the country via Ukraine and Turkey is forecast to bring a significant 10-degree Celsius temperature drop starting on Thursday, according to a forecast by the Greek meteorological services.

The temperature drop will be accompanied by stormy northerly winds and rainfall, mainly affecting the northern part of the country.

The phenomena are forecast to peak in intensity on the weekend, with the gale-force winds affecting the Aegean area by the end of the week, while strong southerly winds will also affect the Ionian Sea.

As the Meteo Services note, the sharp temperature fall will be felt in most of the country, with the low-pressure air mass generating temperatures 4-6 degrees Celsius below the season’s average.

According to the forecast by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) the weather in Greece for Thursday, will impact the Ionian region, and the central and northern mainland, both of which will experience partly cloudy skies, with a chance of light local showers in Thessaly and western Macedonia until midday.

In the rest of the areas, scattered clouds are forecast sporadically becoming heavier.

Winds in the west will blow from the east-southeast at 3 to 5 Beaufort. In the east, they will be northerly-northeasterly at 4 to 6 Beaufort, reaching 7 in the Aegean and up to 8 locally in the south.
