Over the coming days, Greece’s western regions will be drenched by rain, thunderstorms, and buffeted by strong winds. In contrast, the nation’s capital, Athens, will enjoy calmer, albeit cloudy skies.

Saturday, December 21, 2024: Wild Weather in the West

Prepare for locally heavy rain and dramatic thunderstorms in:

  • Western Peloponnese
  • Southernmost Ionian islands (Kefalonia-Zakynthos area)
  • Central and Eastern Macedonia
  • Thrace
  • Eastern Aegean islands (particularly Samos and Ikaria)
  • The Dodecanese
  • Crete (mostly western and southern areas)

Accompanying these rains will be stormy winds, initially blowing from the southwest but shifting to the northwest as the day progresses. These gusts will be especially fierce across western and southern Greece.

Meanwhile, Athens will enjoy a break from the drama with partly cloudy skies, a mild high of 16°C, and a chilly low of 6°C.
In Thessaloniki, temperatures will be notably cooler, with a high of 9°C, perfect for bundling up with a warm drink.

Sunday, December 22, 2024: A Brighter Horizon

As Sunday arrives, Greece will see a significant improvement in weather conditions. Winds across the country will ease to a manageable 5 Beaufort or less.

Athens is expected to see more clouds with a pleasant high of 17°C, and a low of 7°C. In Thessaloniki the forecast is cooler but steady, with highs around 10°C.
