A polar-like cold front arriving from the northeast over the late weekend will affect much of Greece and is expected to generate snowfall in the peaks and highlands surrounding the greater Athens area, with the mountainous and semi-mountainous regions of northern and central mainland to also see snow.
Much of western Greece, from north to south, will feel cold to sub-zero temperatures but without precipitation.
A worsening of weather conditions is expected to begin on Sunday afternoon and intensify over the next 48-hour period.
Rough seas with 7 to 8 on the Beauford scale winds may also hamper ferry boat routes in the Aegean Sea.
