The wintry conditions persist across Greece, οn Sunday, February 16, as the country remains under the grip of severe weather, with rain and thunderstorms affecting many regions since Saturday, February 15.
Heavy Rain and Storms in Several Areas
According to the emergency weather bulletin issued by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) on Saturday, strong rain and thunderstorms will continue today, particularly in the Ionian Sea, the coastal areas of Epirus, western Central Greece, the Peloponnese, and temporarily in western and southern Crete, the Cyclades, and the northeastern Aegean.
Weather in Athens and Thessaloniki
• Athens: Expect cloudy skies with periods of increased cloud cover. Temperatures will range from 10 to 16°C, while winds will blow at 3-4 Beaufort in the surrounding seas.
• Thessaloniki: Localized showers are expected, with temperatures ranging from 6 to 14°C. Winds will reach 4-5 Beaufort in the Thermaic Gulf.
Emergency Alert Issued by Civil Protection
An emergency warning was issued on Saturday afternoon for regions in western Greece, the Ionian Islands, Epirus, and the Peloponnese due to the extreme weather expected in the coming hours.
Through the 112 emergency alert system, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection urged residents to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow official instructions until the storms subside by midday Sunday.

In central and eastern Macedonia and Thrace, cloudy skies will bring rain, which will extend to western Macedonia and Thessaly from midday onwards.
The eastern Aegean islands, the Dodecanese, as well as the Cyclades and Crete in the early morning hours, will experience locally increased cloud cover, with rain and scattered thunderstorms.
Elsewhere in the country, intermittent cloudiness will prevail, with brief localized showers expected in Epirus, Central Greece, and Evia.
Snowfall is forecast in northern mainland regions, initially in the mountains and later in the evening in semi-mountainous areas.
Temperatures will drop in the northeast, where they will not exceed 8 to 10°C. Elsewhere, temperatures will remain stable, reaching 11 to 13°C in the north, 14 to 16°C in central regions, and 16 to 17°C in most southern areas, with local highs of 18°C in the far south.
