The Greek meteorological services revised a severe weather bulletin issued on Wednesday morning, warning of strong rain and thunderstorms in 5 more regions in the country.
According to the updated forecast, the thunderstorms and rain will extend until Saturday, and will be accompanied by lightning and hail affecting the Ionian Islands, Epirus, western Central Greece, the western Peloponnese, and potentially Thessaly and Attica.
The severe weather bulletin forecast is based on the updated Severe Weather Bulletin released by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS), which factored in the latest predictive data.
In a related post, HNMS Director Theodoros Kolydas noted that most thunderstorms will occur in the southern Peloponnese. Moderate cloud formations (Cu, Cb) have been observed over eastern Thessaly and the northwest Aegean, according to HNMS weather radar.
Meanwhile, according to Meteo, thunderstorms impacted Pyrgos, Ilia, from midnight until 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The total recorded rainfall during this period, as measured by the automatic weather station of the Observatory of Athens in the city, reached 101 millimeters.
Significant rainfall amounts were also recorded in various other areas of the Peloponnese and the Ionian Islands, as reported by the network of automatic weather stations operated by the National Observatory of Athens (meteo.gr).
Meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafyllias noted that the bad weather will not subside by Thursday as initially predicted but will extend until Saturday, impacting more regions.
