Last year was the hottest in Greece over the last three decades, according to climatebook.gr. The research team presented its findings on climate conditions in the country earlier this month.
Specifically, the average annual temperature in Greece for 2023 was 15.2C, with data cited by the group indicating an increase from 13.5C thirty years ago. Additionally, the average highest temperature for 2023 was higher in every region in Greece than the corresponding average highs for 1991-2020. Indicatively, December 2023 was recorded as the hottest December since 1991, with deviations of 4 to 5C from the lowest recorded highs for the month.
The region with the highest rate of warming was northern Greece, especially in the interior.
