Rainfall is expected in much of Greece on Sunday, beginning in the west and moving to the rest of the mainland and islands. The distinctly winter-like weather may also be punctuated by stronger thunderstorms.
The heaviest rainfall is expected in northwest mountainous Greece and all of the Ionian Sea islands.
Southerly winds are also expected to generate winds of 5 to 6 on the Beaufort scale, and at times reaching 7 in the eastern Aegean and Dodecanese islands.
An early forecast of the weather between Dec. 29 and Christmas Day, Dec. 25, shows a Cold Front passing through the east Mediterranean country, with the possibility of creating a “White Christmas”, at least in the mountainous regions in north and central Greece.
