Greece’s meteorological service warns that many regions of Greece will be impacted by heavy rain, thunderstorms and even hail, on Thursday.
Specifically, Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, parts of Central Macedonia (Thessaloniki and Halidiki), the islands of the northeast Aegean, Thessaly, the Sporades, Central and Eastern Sterea Ellada, Attica, the Eastern Peloponnese and Evia should be on high alert for extreme weather.
There are also risks of local flooding, due to the great amount of rain that is expected over a short period of time in some areas of the country.
Emergency Alerts
Citizens and visitors should be on the look-out for more emergency alerts. An emergency alert was sent to residents of Thessaloniki late on Wednesday, warning of severe weather and encouraging residents to limit their movements.
The region experienced severe thunderstorms and heavy rains in many areas.
On Tuesday, social media was filled with images of unusually large hail, which was reportedly up to 4cm in size and caused damage to crops.
Large hail up to ~4 cm was observed today (02/07/2024) in Nisi, Pella, Northern Greece.
