November 2024: Greece Finally Posts Temps Below Seasonal Norms

Meteo.gr highlights that news of a colder November 2024 comes after 16 consecutive months of higher-than-normal temperatures in Greece.

Greece’s meteo .gr reveals that, in November 2024, Greece posted temperatures that were slightly below seasonal norms.

The welcome news follows 16 consecutive months of higher-than-normal temperatures across most of the country, exacerbating drought conditions and contributing to a particularly deadly 2024 tourist season.

In a post on Facebook, the research director of Greece’s National Observatory of Athens (NOA), Dr. Kostas Lagouvardos, reminds readers that the high temperatures were posted from July 2023 to October 2024.

Meteo .gr gathers its data from a network of 53 meteorological stations, which are operated by the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) continuously since 2010.

In his post, Lagouvaros explains that the average value of maximum daily temperatures in November was slightly below the seasonal averages in most parts of the country (compared to the 2010-2019 average).

The map below shows the deviations in the average maximum temperature for November 2024 by geographic region. In the Aegean islands and Crete, this past November was recorded as the second coldest since 2010.
