A severe weather forecast for Friday and Saturday was issued in Greece on Thursday, with heavy rains, severe thunderstorms, hail and frequent lightning strikes cited.
The inclement weather will first commence in the Ionian islands and western Greece mainland, gradually moving westward to central and northern mainland then towards the Aegean.
Strong southerly winds reaching 7 to 8 on the Beaufort scale are forecast for the seas, entailing a possible disruption in certain ferry boat routes.
Central Greece experienced unprecedented rainfall and flooding in early September from the storm “Daniel”, with damages estimated in the billions of euros. Since then, most of the country has experienced unseasonable balmy weather conditions.
