Meteorologists are warning of a significant low pressure front expected to pass through most of Greece over the coming weekend, accompanied by heavy rain and the first snowfall in many parts of the country.
The expected intensity of the storm front has also earned it a code name, “Alexis”, in this case.
The snowfall, in fact, is forecast as low as 250 meters from the sea level in many places.
Ferry boat routes may also be disrupted, with winds of force 8 on the Beaufort scale forecast on the seas.
According to Mega TV meteorologist Yannis Kallianos, snowfall will cover most high ground on the central and northern mainland, the northern Ionian islands and islands in the northeast Aegean overnight Saturday, and heading into Sunday.
Snow is also forecast in lower altitudes across northern Greece.
