A low pressure front passing through Greece on Sunday and Monday is expected to bring the first autumn-like weather throughout at least half the country, marked by a drop in temperatures, high winds and rainfall in many northern areas, according to the national meteorological service.
The rainfall, however, will be much welcomed in areas where precipitation was below average over the recent period.
Winds of 7 to 9 on the Beaufort scale are forecast for the Ionian Sea off western mainland Greece.
The heaviest rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast for northeast Greece and the north Aegean.
Temperatures will also drop, on average, by 6 to 8 degrees in the northern half of the mainland.
However, the weather in the greater Athens-Piraeus area will continue to be sunny and balmy.
