Extremely high temperatures, with local maxima exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, will persist across the country until Monday, July 22. On Tuesday, a gradual cooling trend will begin, affecting both maximum and minimum temperatures, which will be noticeable in most regions by the middle of the upcoming week.
According to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service, on Sunday, July 21, and Monday, July 22, temperatures are expected to reach:
- 39 το 40 degrees Celsius in Attica
- 38 to 39 degrees Celsius in the northern mainland, 39 to 40 degrees Celsius in other inland areas, and locally up to 41 degrees Celsius
- 38 to 40 degrees Celsius in the Eastern Aegean Islands and the Dodecanese
- 34 to 37 degrees Celsius in the remaining island areas
“We will need to be a bit more patient regarding the intense and prolonged heatwave,” expressed Open TV’s meteorologist Klearchos Marousakis. By the middle of the coming week, temperatures will return to seasonal averages of around 35°C for maximum temperatures, a welcome change after a long period of extreme heat.
According to the meteorologist, “In fact, this temperature drop will be accompanied by increased instability, leading to showers and potentially strong thunderstorms, especially in the central and northern regions, with a focus on the late afternoon and early evening hours.”
