A new and more potent cold front is expected to affect much of Greece over the next 48 hours, characterized by low temperatures, snow in the highlands and rain.
Temperatures are expected to drop by 3 to 6C from normal February levels in the east Mediterranean country, or 10 to 12 degrees lower than in the previous week.
Single-digit temperatures in Celsius were forecast for the greater Athens-Piraeus area up until Sunday.
Snowfall in the peaks surrounding the Greek capital and in its northern districts is also forecast, but not in the rest of the urban agglomeration.
New precipitation in the form of snow is forecast half of the country up to the Thessaly plain in central Greece, with rainfall in the rest of the country, including the islands in the Aegean and Crete.
