Greece’s civil protection authority issued a severe weather emergency alert on Saturday afternoon, known as 112, as a storm front called Bora sweeps the country, causing flooding, water spouts, snow and 1 death.

Bora Causes Snow, Flooding, 1 Death

Citizens in the northern Greece region of Florina woke up to snow and the Greek weather service warned that the foul weather would spread to other regions throughout the day. Media reports that a tourist bus was stuck in the snow in northern Greece and 35 tourists had to be rescued.

The civil protection authority issued an alert for Athens, Evia, Thessaly, Macedonia Rhodes, Limnos and more regions.

Meanwhile, media reports that Bora caused a waterspout when it passed over Corfu, and that the island of Rhodes has also received a 112 alert on account of flooding, which has left dozens of cars stranded on the island.

Forecast for Sunday and Monday

On Sunday, widespread rain and storms, are forecast. They are expected to be locally intense, especially in Central and Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, Thessaly, Sporades, Evia, and Aegean islands. Snowfall will occur in northern and central mountain areas, with thick snow in higher regions of Macedonia and Epirus.

On Monday, strong weather phenomena will persist, mostly in southern Central Macedonia, Eastern Thessaly, and the Aegean. Gradual improvement in the west and north. Snow in northern and central mountains. Temperatures will fall slightly below seasonal averages.
