‘Greek Freak’ Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks was ejected from last night’s Milwaukee Bucks – Detroit Pistons NBA game due to unsportsmanlike conduct, according to the NBA Official website.
In order to be ejected from a game, a player must have two separate violations of unsportsmanlike conduct, explained Crew Chief Rodney Mott, when questioned about the incident by Jim Owczarski in a Pool Report interview posted on the site.
Mott said that in the second quarter at the 3:47 mark, Antetokounmpo used profanity against the game official in reaction to a personal foul call on Piston’s player Cade Cunningham, earning him the first technical foul.
The second call came when Antetokounmpo earned a foul at the 9:00 mark of the third quarter following his dunk. Immediately after his dunk, Antetokounmpo taunted his opponent and earned his second technical foul on unsportsmanlike conduct and was thus ejected.
Immediately following the call for ejection, Antetokounmpo sat in the front row in disbelief at the call before heading for the showers, accompanied by his personal security. By the time of his ejection, he had scored 15 points, and had 9 rebounds and 5 assists.
Antetokounmpo was born and raised in Athens to Nigerian parents and earned the name ‘Greek Freak’ on account of his size, speed, strength and partially the inability of people to pronounce his name. He is widely considered one of the best power forwards of all time.
