In the latest survey by pollsters GPO about the Greek political scene, the ruling conservative party of New Democracy (ND) continued to record poor numbers, with the margin from second-placed social PASOK consolidating below double digits.
The poll, which was conducted on behalf of the newspaper “Parapolitika” after the expulsion of ex-Prime Minister Antonis Samaras by PM Mitsotakis that caused internal turmoil in the center-right party, revealed that 25.8% of the respondents would vote for ND, with 17.4% supporting PASOK.
The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) climbed to third place with 7.9%, followed by the Hellenic Solution party in fourth place at 7.7%, while SYRIZA, reeling from constant internal strife, plummeted to fifth with only 5.8%.
Other parties include Voice of Reason at 5.3%, Plefsi Eleftherias (Course of Freedom) at 3.4%, and Niki at 3.2%.
The poll indicates that over half the respondents (55.9%) believe the next Greek general elections will lead to a coalition government, compared to 33.5% who expect a single-party majority government.
Regarding the recent developments that rocked the New Democracy party with the expulsion of Antonis Samaras, 46.3% of respondents deemed Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ decision justified, while 35% disagreed. About the potential impact of the expulsion on the conservative party, 47.9% said it would harm the party, while 42.7% think it “probably won’t.”
